Tips for optimal lighting of the kitchen island
Kitchen islands are a popular design element in the modern kitchen. A place for informal communication is created between the dining area and kitchen, and that is why luminaires above the kitchen island should provide both support for work and sociable gatherings.
Good prerequisites are:
1. bright and brilliant working light for cooking and chopping
2. easy-care surface of the luminaires
3. appealing, less technical design to make the area a visual focal point as well
When planning the number and position of light sources, care should be taken to ensure that shadows are not cast on the work surface. This can easily be achieved with suspended pendant luminaires. At the same time, the shades must not obstruct the view or be so large that they may be bumped into. Small to medium-sized pendant lamps hung in a row are therefore very suitable above the cooking island. Linear luminaires with small profile dimensions are also well suited. They keep visual axes open and still provide good illumination. To achieve sufficient brightness, you can use the rule of thumb for kitchen lighting of 300 lumens per square meter.
